Broken Glass

Special Instructions

 

 

If broken glass is NOT contaminated with medical or biohazardous waste, the following items may be placed in a rigid container (a cardboard box is fine) marked with the words “Broken Glassware” and placed in the sanitary trash only:

  • Broken glassware
  • Glassware with sharp edges or points
  • Pasteur pipettes
  • Glass slides

Some laboratories have a box to collect broken glass. Please use this if it is avaialbe.

Do Not Recycle

Do not recycle any broken glass item, even glass bottles or jars; broken glass can injure trash haulers and sanitation workers.

Depending on the type of bulb, you may need to dispose of it as hazardous waste. Find out what to do with broken bulbs.
